The inside scope of the 2010 NPA Invitational  Bodybuilding & Fitness/Figure Championships

May 29, 2010 the NPA second show of the season was an excellent first show for promoters; NPA
Bodybuilding USA (JW Hicks and Ron Smock-McCarthy).  They did a wonderful job and made one heck of an
effort to make this show a success.  These two fine NPA administrators got their act together.  There were
twenty one (21) athletes and approximately thirteen (13) crossovers.  The Henrico Theater provided a
beautiful venue with men and women dressing rooms and a huge stage with excellent lighting and a great
pump up area.  The show was a live – judged (one session) event.  The weather was good and registration
started at 1 pm.  Ron armed with automated skills made things go along a lot smoother. The show started
at 5:30 pm sharp!

After opening the show and the playing of the National anthem the audience appeared ready to see a
show. We opened with teenager Corey Mercer from Mechanicsville, VA who went uncontested and earned
his very first title. In the men’s lightweight novice (under 175lbs) 2008 teenage champ Jonas McGaha,
Lynchburg, VA placed 4^th.  Third place (3^rd) was taken by NPA newcomer Anthony Tinsley, Mechanicsville,
VA with 2^nd place earned by Hampton; VA Donovan Pepley, and the winner was veteran Donald Ladd, from
New Kent, VA.   In the (175+) heavyweight novice two athletes would contend for the title.  Second (2^nd)
place was claimed by Eric Cressman, Chester, VA and the winner of the class was newcomer Al Graham,
Petersburg, VA.  In the overall posedown between Ladd and Graham, Ladd was in better shape and a
bit more polished than Graham and unanimously won the overall novice title.   

Next, the master’s figure was bought out on stage and from Colonial Heights, VA the lovely LaDonna
Montgomery went uncontested and earned her second NPA title in less than a year.  She went on to
crossover into the open tall (5’5” +) category and in this class there was competition.  It really didn’t
matter to LaDonna for she is focus on getting ready for the NPA Nationals and Masters Universe  
where she plans to earn her pro card and compete in the Pro division in October. Her competition in this
class was pre medical student and the very beautiful Nicole Miglis, Lynchburg, VA. Nicole finished second
(2^nd) and La Donna was the class and overall champion.  It looks like we will see LaDonna next month in
Burlington, North Carolina, chasing her Pro eligibility.  

In the Masters men (50 +) there were only two; 2^nd place finisher Langston Brooks from Elkridge,
Maryland and 1^st place winner and veteran Roger Godsey, Concord, VA who looked good.  (In the 40-49)
there were three and only the top 3 would leave with awards, which also meant all these competitors
would win. 3^rd place was awarded to Hakeem Ali-Ber, Chesterfield, VA, 2^nd place was awarded to Calvin
McIntyre, Chester, VA who did receive one first place vote and the winner was Daryl Thomas, Montpelier, VA
who bought in his best appearance thus far in the Natural Physique Association.  In the (35-39) division
there were also three with 3^rd place finisher being; Eric Cressman, 2^nd place belonged to Eric Bazemore,
Hampton, VA and 1^st place went to Mathew Lyttle, Richmond Virginia   When the three division winners
came together for the overall Masters title, Daryl Thomas won by one point.  Lyttle on any given day could
get this decision from Thomas. Thomas had lady luck on his side tonite.  Lyttle is a deserving athlete who will
be a force in the NPA if he stays around. 

In the women open figure division, there were only two classes represented, the middleweight and
heavyweight class.  Krissie Zurik, Sandston, VA represented the middleweight class (115 to under130)
and Ronny Tucker, Hopewell, VA represented the heavyweight class (130+).  When all the smoked cleared
, Krissie Zurik who was in superb condition received all first plates votes and won best poser award as well.
 However it was very close for the best poser award.

In the men lightweight class open division (under 165) there were six (6) athletes chasing only the top
three (3) places.  In 6^th place was Marlo Thomas Corpuz, Sterling, VA, 5^th place was earned by Langston
Brooks  4th place went to Scott Cavanaugh, Sterling, VA, 3rd place was earned by Jonas MaGaha,  2^nd place
was earned by Donovan Pepley, Hampton, VA and your winner of the class was Donnie Ladd.  

In the middleweight class open division (165 to under 185) there were three with 3^rd place finisher; Calvin
McIntyre, Chester, VA, 2^nd place finisher Mathew Lyttle and winner Daryl Thomas all season and veteran
athletes representing the class trying to advance to the next level.  Calvin McIntyre was awarded the male
best poser. 

 In the light heavyweight (185 to under 200) there were two and second place went to Kyle Montgomery,
Colonial Heights, VA and winner of the class was Eric Bazemore.  When the posedown took place amongst
the three class winners and all the smoke cleared Daryl Thomas would be the man.  He wasn’t the clear
cut winner however after a technical error, discovered, founded, and corrected, Daryl survived the
smoke. Congratulations Daryl! The one and only couple contestants were Jonas McGaha and his fiancee
Nicole Miglis who did an acceptable job entertaining their fans!
