How to Assess NPA Fitness/Figure Contests
Sessions: (One or Two)
One: Live Judged/Two : Prejudging and Finals
1. Round One – Contestants are bought on stage as an entire group and will perform a series of ¼ turns wearing high
heels. If necessary, smaller groups of no more than 5 competitors will additionally perform ¼ turns that are directed by the
head judge. Uniform: Bikini or two piece swimsuit and high heels with numbers worn on the left side of the bottom suit.
Make –up, jewelry, eccentric wear may be worn.
2. Round Two - This round contestants come out one at a time and will do the pattern model walk. They will move to stage
left or stage right as directed by the head judge. When all the contestants are on stage they will be lined up for ¼ turns.
The head judge will take them through a series of ¼ turns as in round one. If necessary, smaller groups of no more than 5
competitors will additionally perform ¼ turns that are directed by the head judge. Uniform: One piece suit w/high heels and
number worn on the bottom left side of suit. Make-up, jewelry, eccentric wear may be worn.
3. Final Round – (Figure only): – When the contest is treated as a two session event the final round will take place in the
finals. In a live judged or one session event it usually does not exist. However, it may be used or conducted after intermission
in order to break a tie. Each athlete will be introduced in numerical order and will execute the pattern model walk as in Round
two. The uniform in this round is the one piece suit w/high heels and number worn on the bottom left side of the suit. It is
usually designed for the entertainment of the audience but may be used and scored to break a tie.
(Fitness only): is when the contestant performs their routines. Each athlete will be introduced in numerical order and will
perform a maximum of a two minute routine. Routines should be well choreographed, creative, performed at a high
tempo/speed. Routine should include: elements of strength, example straddle hop, leg extension hold, and or one arm push
ups, elements of flexibility for example, high kicks, side splits and finally the speed or tempo demonstrates a degree of
cardiovascular fitness, stamina, and endurance. Uniform: Athletic exercise gear and numbers will be worn on bottom left
side of the outfit.
4. Overall Winners – When there is more than one class, the class winners are bought on stage into one group and will
perform a series of ¼ turns wearing a one piece suit and high heels. The head judge may move contestants at the judge’s
requests. Once this is completed contestants are given approximately 30 seconds of model walking music to strut their stuff
to let the judges get one more final look. If more than two classes are present then each contestant must be scored, first,
second, or third. Uniform; one piece suit with heels.
5. Awards - (Figure Athletes only): Unless specified by the promoter the top five will receive awards in each class upon
completion of the judging. The uniform will be a one piece suit with high heels in which pictures will be taken for additional
publicity and the NPA’s website or future promotions.
(Fitness Athletes only): Unless specified by the promoter the top five will receive awards in each class upon completion of
Round three. The uniform will be fitness attire (athletic gear, etc).
One class (no height restrictions)
Two classes (Under 5’5” – Short) (Over 5’5” – Tall)
Three classes (Under 5’2” – Short) (5’2” to under 5’5”– Medium) (Over 5’ 5” – Tall)
All National shows must offer 3 classes!

How to Assess NPA Bikini Contests
Sessions: (One or Two)
One: Live Judged/Two : Prejudging and Finals
1. Round One (Comparison)– Contestants are bought on stage as an entire group and will perform a Frontal stance
wearing high heels. At the instructions of the head judge athletes will do 180 degree turn so that the back is facing the panel.
If necessary, smaller groups of no more than 5 competitors will line up and directed by the head judge. Uniform: Bikini or two
piece swimsuit, V bottom with (50% of the gluteus maximum covered) high heels with numbers worn on the left side of the bottom suit.
Make –up, jewelry, eccentric wear may be worn.
2. Round Two (Presentation) - This round contestants come out one at a time and will do the pattern model walk. Contestants will walk to the
center of the stage, stop and do a front stance, then a full turn and do a rear stance, then turn to the front again and then proceed to the side
of the stage. They will be informed of which side of the stage they line up on by the head judge. If necessary, smaller groups of no more than 5
competitors will be directed by the head judge. Uniform: Same as round one.
3. Final Round – (Combo of C & P): – When the contest is treated as a two session event the final round will take place in the finals. In a live judged
or one session event it usually does not exist. However, it may be used or conducted after intermission in order to break a tie. Each athlete will be
introduced in numerical order and will execute the pattern model walk as in Round two. The uniform in this round is the same as one and two. This is
usually designed for the entertainment of the audience but may be used and scored to break a tie. Contestants are bought on stage as an entire group
and will perform a Frontal stance wearing high heels. At the instructions of the head judge athletes will do 180 degree turn so that the back is facing the
panel.

judge will direct athletes to do a full front and rear stance. Each contestant must be scored; first, second, or third if appropriate. Judges will have the
opportunity to compare competitors against each other in half turns. (No side judging permitted, front and back shots only). This is also done to arrive to the
overall winners. Uniform; two pieces or bikini with v bottom covering 50% of the gluteus maximum with heels. May wear jewelry.
5. Awards - (Bikini Athletes only): Unless specified by the promoter the top five will receive awards in each class upon completion of the judging.
The uniform is the same as previously mentioned. Pictures will be taken for additional publicity and the NPA’s website or future promotions.
6. Judges are scoring competitors on the following items: balance, shape, overall physical appearance, complexion, skin tone, poise,
and overall presentation.
7. The bikini competitor is smoother, softer, than and not nearly as muscular as the figure or bodybuilding competitors.
